First Year
That was fast! It seems like just yesterday that I was setting up a meetup group, but this week the San Marcos Board Gamers complete their first year as an organization!
“Organization” is a strong word, of course. We don’t really do anything formal, and I for one would like to keep it that way. However, there are some first year statistics that I’m proud of.
The meetup group has 77 members, and we have a few more keeping track of us in our Facebook group. We’ve had 22 meetups in our first year, with turnouts that have ranged from 6 to 16. We meet regularly at two venues, the San Marcos Public Library and the Hungry Gamer sandwich shop. We have young gamers, college gamers, and several folks who remember the salad days of Avalon Hill.
Most importantly, we’ve played lots different games this first year. Classic games, party games, strategy games… this is a group with broad interests and eclectic collections. As a professional dilettante, I love that.
So, we’re off to a good start, and we’ll be kicking off our second year tomorrow at our July library meetup. Come join the fun!
