Welcome to the San Marcos Board Gamers!

Welcome to the San Marcos Board Gamers! We’re an organization of ordinary folks with one simple goal: get together on a regular basis and play board games.

We’re setting up monthly meetings on Sunday afternoons at the San Marcos Public Library. Our first meeting will be Sunday, July 28 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. We hope you’ll join us!

So Who’s Invited?

Everyone! This is an open group with no formal membership requirement. Just show up and play!

In general, we expect this to be a family-oriented group with a broad age range of players. If you’re between the ages of eight and eighty-eight, there will probably be at least one game running that you will enjoy playing.

What Does the Group Play?

That’s up to you. Bring a game you like and there’s a good chance you’ll find someone who’s eager to play it.

In general, we expect the group to lean towards light strategy games and party games that can be played in about an hour. Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, and Wits and Wagers are good examples of games that are quick to play and easy for new players to learn.

Traditional family games like Sorry or Clue are good too, and it’s not hard to find players who are interested in more complex strategy games. The only thing to keep in mind is that the library meetings are only about three hours long. That 12-hour game of Diplomacy might not be such a great idea, unless you’re willing to save your positions and continue the game at the next meeting.

Who’s in Charge Here?

That would be me, at least for now. My name is Chris Aylott, and I’m a writer and game designer who loves board games. I’ve wanted to see a group like this around town for a while, so I figured I’d start one. I’m doing the basics of securing a space and putting out the word, but where this goes from here is ultimately up to you.
